Fields of usage of Night Vision Binoculars
The main characteristics of Night Vision Binoculars
Night Vision Binoculars are really just two small telescopes mechanically
linked together, providing more reliable performance and stereoscopic picture.
They can be mounted on tripod. Night Vision Binoculars are characterised
by magnification, field of view, resolution in the centre of field of vision,
dioptr. compensation, IR- illumination etc.
Night Vision Binoculars, as other Binoculars, are commonly described
with the help of numbers, such as "7x50". The first of these numbers means magnification
of the Night Vision Binocular. Common Binocular magnifications are 6x,
7x, 8x, 9x, and 10x. The second number refers to the diameter of the objective
lens of the Night Vision Binocular in mm. Thus in "7x50," the "50"
means that the front lenses of the Night Vision Binoculars are 50mm in
diameter.
The size of the area that can be seen while looking through a pair of binoculars
is referred to as the field of view. Field of view is related to magnification,
with greater magnification creating a smaller field of view, in general. A large
field of view is especially desirable in situations where the object viewed
is likely to move, or when the user is moving.
The diameter, in millimeters, of the beam of light that leaves the eyepiece
of a pair of binoculars is the "exit pupil". The larger the exit pupil,
the brighter the image obtained will be. Having a large exit pupil is advantageous
under low light conditions and at night.
Eye relief. This refers to the distance, in millimeters, that a binocular
can be held from the eye and the full field of view can still be comfortably
observed. Eyeglass wearers in particular benefit from longer eye relief.
A binocular’s ability to gather and transmit enough of the available light
to give a sufficiently bright and sharp image defines its brightness.
The brightness of a binocular also enhances color differentiation in the image
observed.
Resolution. A measurement of the binocular's ability to distinguish
fine detail and produce a sharp image. Better resolution also delivers more
intense color.
The most famous trade-marks of Night Vision Binoculars are Baigish,
BNV, Dipol, Filin.
